The report reveals that over 2 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States in 2025, and more than 618,000 people will die from the disease.

Despite these alarming figures, the report emphasizes a 34% decrease in the cancer mortality rate since 1991, equating to nearly 4.5 million deaths avoided thanks to advancements in treatments, early detection, and smoking reduction. However, significant challenges remain, including racial and geographic disparities in incidence, mortality, and access to treatment.

Forty percent of adult cancer cases are considered preventable, tied to modifiable risk factors such as smoking (19%), being overweight (8%), and alcohol consumption (5%). Additionally, 5-year survival rates have increased to 69% for all cancers combined, though they vary widely depending on the type and stage at diagnosis.

The ACS calls for continued prioritization of prevention, screening programs, and health equity initiatives to combat cancer more effectively.
