La Serena, January 19, 2024 – In a joint effort to strengthen cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, a Health and Community Forum took place in the Coquimbo Region on January 19. The event brought together prominent authorities and healthcare professionals.
Topics covered during the forum included the epidemiology and incidence of cancer in the Coquimbo Region, as well as diagnosis and treatment, with an emphasis on the importance of prevention and early detection. Strategies and public policies focused on prevention were discussed, along with challenges and achievements in accessing treatment within the public healthcare system.
The event featured the participation of notable figures, including the Director of the Coquimbo Health Service, the Regional Health Minister, the Director of La Serena Hospital, the Head of Oncology, and the Minister of Health. Throughout the discussion, participants highlighted the essential role of collaborative efforts among civil society, healthcare teams, and active group participation in developing public health policies.
The Unidos Contra el Cáncer Foundation had the opportunity to speak with the attending authorities, who expressed their awareness and support for the organization’s presence in the region. The dialogue was described as productive and enriching, offering a more human and holistic perspective on the issue of cancer.
Dr. Javier Elorza, Chief Oncology Doctor at La Serena Hospital, highlighted advances and goals in the fight against cancer. He underscored the importance of prevention, patient care, treatment, and support, emphasizing the significance of collaboration among all involved parties.
With optimism, there are better prospects on the horizon for cancer prevention and care in the Coquimbo Region. Unidos Contra el Cáncer Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to being present and continuing its contributions to the community’s well-being in the fight against this disease.
